I love the way that John looks at Whitney. He looks at her and you can just feel the way his heart has totally encompassed hers. The love and adoration between these two is enough to move some serious mountains. If it’s cliche to say that I fell in love with them both during my time with them, well, then call me cliche.

May I be the first in blog form to say congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Crosser; they married Memorial Day weekend under immense amounts of sunshine.

Love you guys for reals.

so emotional

May 28, 2009

So.

I’m watching So You Think You Can Dance and they just showed a montage of dancers who have been told they made it through to the Las Vegas portion of the competition and as they are jumping around and celebrating I feel myself getting emotional.

Woah. Hold on. Really?! REALLY OHOLENDT?

But, here’s the thing. I know what those contestants are feeling. That complete and total elation when you realize that your dream is literally in your hands.

My camera is my Vegas ticket.

And since this is a photography blog after all – here’s a sneak peak from Whitney & John’s amazing wedding last weekend.

Big things are happening.

google-licious

This made my day.

(Though I read that Google has what they call little “spiders” that “
crawl the web” and um…I REALLY THINK THEY NEED TO CHANGE THE METAPHOR TO SOMETHING LESS CREEPY. )

I will admit it. Almost three years ago, I wasn’t sold on the whole Minneapolis “thing”. The transition from Utah to Minnesota was harder than I let on and while I was ecstatic for the reason to BE in Minneapolis – it was the whole being-away-from-lifelong-friends thing that my psyche didn’t take kindly to. (Am I allowed to talk about my psyche on a photography blog?)

Along came Amy. I finally had a native-Minneapolis friend and she was brilliant, beautiful and absolutely what my loneliness had ordered. We bonded over our love for coffee shops and boys in law school and knew we were destined to be friends.

It’s so appropriate that Amy and her family were my first photography subjects. She was the first person to push me to pursue photography; the one that made me believe that I had more than just a passing talent. I have so many reasons to thank her.

I pretty much love the below series of photos. So Amy and Jared.

Below are Amy’s fabulous parents who spent hours singing songs and clapping hands trying to get the twins to look at the camera. They are superstars.

the beginning

May 25, 2009

You know that part in the movie Notting Hill where Hugh Grant’s character is saying goodbye to Julia Robert’s character after their somewhat messy introduction to each other? I will never forget what he says to her.

“It was nice to meet you; surreal, but nice.”

If I could sum up my young life in photography the tag line would read, “surreal, but nice”. I feel like I’ve spent the last few months floating along in this dreamlike state and in truth, I don’t ever want it to end.

I am exactly where I am supposed to be, of that I have never been more sure.

Surreal, but nice indeed.
